This study is looking at how well oral anticoagulation medicines work to prevent complications, such as blood clots and heart attack, for patients who experience post-operative atrial fibrillation (POAF). This study is in multiple locations around the country.

Are you 65 years old or older, and do you have severe primary mitral regurgitation? This condition — also called degenerative mitral regurgitation — happens when there is a problem with the mitral valve itself or its supporting tissue, leading to a leaky valve. This study is comparing the safety and effectiveness of two different ways of repairing the mitral valve: transcatheter edge-to-edge repair and surgical repair. To participate in this study, your healthcare provider must determine that you are a candidate for both mitral valve transcatheter edge-to-edge repair and surgical repair. This study takes place in multiple locations across the United States and Canada.

Have you or your child been diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, and would you like to support better diagnosis of lung infections? This study is exploring new ways to diagnose bacterial lung infections in people who have cystic fibrosis. The study will test whether analyzing a participant’s breath and sputum samples can help diagnose infections. Participants in this study must be at least 3 years old. This study is taking place in multiple locations in the United States.

Are you an African American or Black woman? Do you want to join a study about becoming more active? This study explores whether a group program can help women be more physically active. You must be 18 years old and exercise less than 60 minutes per week to join. The study is taking place in Columbia, South Carolina.

Are you 75 years old or older and interested in participating in a clinical trial where researchers are studying whether statins, which are often used to treat high cholesterol, can help improve heart and brain health. To participate, you cannot have cardiovascular disease or dementia. Are you an adult female with LAM? If so, you may be able to participate in this clinical study where researchers are observing patients who are taking or have taken a certain kind of medication, mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR), to treat lymphangioleiomyomatosis, also known as LAM. You must be at least 18 years old to take part. Are you an adult with atrial fibrillation? In this study, researchers are comparing a continuous direct oral anticoagulation (DOAC) use versus time-limited (1 month) DOAC guided by an AF-sensing Smart Watch (AFSW) for persons with atrial fibrillation and a moderate risk of stroke. Participants must be between the ages of 22 and 85 and have a history of atrial fibrillation. Are you 18 or older, a patient in the PRISMA Health primary care clinics, and got a referral from your primary care provider for a physical activity program? Researchers are looking at how well a 12-week physical activity program works. You will need a referral from your primary care provider to join. The study is taking place in Greenville, South Carolina.

Have you or your child been diagnosed with a blood disorder? If so, you (or they) may be able to participate in a clinical study where researchers are studying a type of infusion using cord blood. Participants can be of any age but must have a blood disorder diagnosed by their doctor. Have you had a heart attack, and do you want to help improve strategies for blood transfusion? The study is comparing two strategies for blood transfusions in heart attack patients who have anemia—whether to give a blood transfusion when the hemoglobin level is less than 10 g/dL, or to give blood only when the blood count is below 8 g/dL. To participate in this study, you must be at least 18 years old, have anemia, and be hospitalized for a heart attack. The study is located in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
