The objective of the ALA-LHC is to establish a national cohort of young adults for the purpose of defining lung health and developing targets to intercept chronic lung disease at its earliest stages.

Have you had a heart attack, and do you want to help improve strategies for blood transfusion? The study is comparing two strategies for blood transfusions in heart attack patients who have anemia—whether to give a blood transfusion when the hemoglobin level is less than 10 g/dL, or to give blood only when the blood count is below 8 g/dL. To participate in this study, you must be at least 18 years old, have anemia, and be hospitalized for a heart attack. The study is located in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

Are you scheduled for a stem cell transplant with cord blood? This study will assess the safety and effectiveness of certain cord blood transplants. The study will help researchers learn the best methods for collecting, storing, and using cord blood in transplants. To participate in this study, you must have a disorder that compromises your body’s ability to make blood cells. This study is located in Bethesda, Maryland.

Do you or your child have severe asthma that is not easily controlled by inhaled corticosteroids? This study evaluates the use of five different asthma medicines to treat adults and adolescents with severe asthma. To participate in this study, you or your child must be 12 years old or older. This study takes place in multiple locations across the United States.

Are you an adult female with LAM? If so, you may be able to participate in this clinical study where researchers are observing patients who are taking or have taken a certain kind of medication, mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR), to treat lymphangioleiomyomatosis, also known as LAM. You must be at least 18 years old to take part. The study is taking place at locations in California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Washington.

This trial will compare time from randomization to failure of treatment or death from any cause of IST versus URD BMT when used as initial therapy to treat Severe Aplastic Anemia.

Do you or one of your children have a congenital heart defect? This study will find both common genetic causes of congenital heart disease and ways that genes influence results of medical treatment. To participate in this study, you or your child must have congenital heart disease. Are you between 40 and 85 with worsening idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis? This study aims to test a new combination treatment for acute exacerbations, a life-threatening complication of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) that has no approved treatment. The treatment is meant to help stop part of the immune system from further injuring the lung tissue. To participate in this study, you must be between 40 and 85 years old and have worsening IPF. This study is located in Birmingham, Alabama; Boston, Massachusetts; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
