The purpose of this study is to determine if acquired (partial) Cystic Fibrosis Transmembrane Conductance Regulator (CFTR) deficiency contributes substantially to the pathogenic mechanisms underlying Chronic Rhinosinusitis (CRS), creating a localized environment that impairs mucociliary clearance (MCC).

Are you 75 years old or older and interested in participating in a clinical trial where researchers are studying whether statins, which are often used to treat high cholesterol, can help improve heart and brain health. To participate, you cannot have cardiovascular disease or dementia. Does your child have obesity? In this study, children and teens, 7 to 13 years of age with obesity and their parents will learn about nutrition, behavior changes, and exercise through the Bright Bodies lifestyle program. Researchers want to see if this program can help lower weight gain and screen time, improve sleep, eating behaviors, and quality of life, and reduce parental stress. The study is taking place at locations in Alabama, California, and Maine.

Do you have chronic bronchitis and COPD and want to improve treatment?
This study will be testing how well a medicine called ivacaftor that is used to treat cystic fibrosis works also to treat symptoms of chronic bronchitis. New research suggests chronic bronchitis may be due to a problem similar to cystic fibrosis. To participate in this study, you must be 40 to 80 years old, have a history of smoking, and have not been diagnosed with asthma or cystic fibrosis. This study will be conducted in Birmingham, Alabama.

Are you scheduled for a stem cell transplant with cord blood?
This study will assess the safety and effectiveness of certain cord blood transplants. The study will help researchers learn the best methods for collecting, storing, and using cord blood in transplants. To participate in this study, you must have a disorder that compromises your body’s ability to make blood cells. This study is located in Bethesda, Maryland.
