Pioglitazone Asthma Clinical Trial

Patients with asthma who are taking inhaled corticosteroids may be eligible to participate in a study at the NIH Clinical Center. The purpose of this study is to determine if a widely used medication for diabetes can improve asthma. Eligible patients will receive a comprehensive evaluation at the Clinical Research Center in Bethesda, Maryland. There is no cost for participating in the study. Biomarkers in Exhaled Breath from Asthmatic Patients
|
Asthmatic patients may be able to participate in a study at the NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda, Maryland that involves the collection of their exhaled breath. The purpose of the study is to help identify factors that can be used as biomarkers or predictors of episodes of increased asthma symptoms. The patient's exhaled breath is collected by breathing normally into a mask specially designed for the study. There is no cost to the patients for participating in the study and patients will receive a comprehensive evaluation. Patients participating in the study will also receive monetary compensation. Genetics of Asthma Research Study

If you have been diagnosed with asthma and allergies, you may be able to participate in an asthma genetics research study at the NIH Clinical Center. The purpose of this research is to identify genes that may be involved in the development or severity of asthma.
Eligible volunteers will undergo a comprehensive medical and pulmonary evaluation at the NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda, MD. There is no cost to you for medical testing and evaluation. You will receive monetary compensation for participating in the study.

Sample Collections from the Airways of Asthmatic Patients
|
Patients with asthma may be able to participate in a sample collection study at the NIH Clinical Center. This study involves a procedure called a fiberoptic bronchoscopy in which cells and fluids are collected from the airways using a pencil-thin tube that is passed into the lungs. The purpose of this research is to identify factors that may cause airway inflammation in patients with asthma. Eligible patients will receive a comprehensive evaluation at the NIH Clinical Research Center in Bethesda, Maryland. There is no cost to you for the medical evaluation.
